How our Ganapati Bappa, “Remover of obstacles”, will help us clean our rivers, lakes & sea?

Lord Ganesha is one of the most revered deities in Hinduism. He is the lord of success, destroyer of evils and remover of obstacles. He is worshipped at the beginning of a ceremony or a rite to ensure that the ceremony advances smoothly without any obstacles.

How lord Ganesha got the title of “the remover of obstacles”?

Lord Vishnu the preserver of the universe was getting married and all the Gods and Goddesses residing in the Swarg Loka were invited including Lord Ganesha. But all the deities tricked Lord Ganesha into guarding the Swarg Loka while others left for the wedding. Narad Muni being his usual self informed Lord Ganesha that he was tricked into guarding the Swarg Loka as all the other Gods and Goddesses were embarrassed by his eating habits and physical appearance. Eventually Lord Ganesha was furious and decided to teach them a lesson. In his rage, he sent Gajasur who dug up the roads stopping the convoy. All the Gods and Goddesses tried to remove the rath that was stuck up in the ditch but all the efforts were in vain. A farmer passing by offered help and pulled out the rath in the first attempt. All the Gods and Goddesses were left awestruck and wondered how he could do something which even they couldn’t do.

To this the farmer replied that he had taken Lord Ganeshas Name before doing the task as Lord Ganesha is the remover of obstacles and the God of the beginning he always recites his name before doing something.

Upon hearing this, all the Gods and Goddesses realized their mistake and returned to Swarg Loka. And all returned to offer their apologies to Lord Ganesha.

But how can we overcome the obstacle and hurdle of water pollution, climate change, global warming?

We all know that the environment is deteriorating and we all are responsible for it. Water pollution, climate change, and global warming have all become obstacles for us and their intensity will increase in the future.

After the pious celebration of Ganesh Chaturthi, the lakes, rivers, seas get polluted. Climate change is for real and it is now that we are realizing climate change is becoming a big issue. 10 states in India were affected by heavy floods this year. People have suffered huge losses of life, wealth and environment.

In such adverse situations also, Lord Ganesha “remover of obstacles” is helping us to remove these obstacles. This can be achieved by the use of Aluminium Sulfate powder.

So, there are 2 ways we can fight this water pollution with the help of our Bappa.

  1.  To get an idol made of Alum (Turti).

Many people in different states have taken this initiative of getting an idol that is made of Alum for the celebration of Ganesh Chaturthi. Alum i.e. Aluminium Sulfate acts as a water purifying agent once dissolved in it.

Our Ganapati Bappa comes once in a year. We all want our Ganesha idol which looks beautiful and attractive. Kids want cute looking Bappa. The problem with alum made idols is that they are not very attractive because they very hard to carve.

But don’t worry. Our Bappa is here to guide us.

  1. 2)    Using Alum powder (Turti)
The idol can be of attractive colors, beautiful and all decked up. What we need is just a small amount of alum which is easily available at any local Kirana or grocery store.
The amount of alum (Turti) we need is 100gm per kg of Ganesha idols weight.

On the day of Visarjan, after the immersion of the Ganpati idol in the water add the alum (Turti powder or Turti dissolved water) in proportion to the weight of the idol.

Our Bappa has again come to our rescue. He is the remover of obstacles and is now helping us to remove these obstacles but we need to exercise it and help ourselves. It is true God helps them who help themselves. We can overcome all the obstacles and hurdles in our lives by having faith and believe in ourselves and the Supreme Being. Ganpati Bappa Morya!
